Dr. Maria Corona
Executive Director of the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV)
Dr. Maria Corona is the Executive Director of the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) and a Mid-Iowa Health Foundation HealthConnect Fellow. She brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience to this role, including community organizing, research and data management, curriculum development, and training. In her first two years as the ED, Dr. Corona expanded ICADV’s staff to become over 50% BIPOC for the first time in ICADV’s history since its inception in 1985.
Previously, she worked as a research assistant for the Child Welfare Research Training Project (CWRTP) and in several Iowa State University Extension and Outreach research programs that focused on rural Latinx Iowans. The voices, needs, and realities of undocumented survivors of intimate partner violence guide her research, policy, and systems-change work. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Women’s Studies and International Studies; Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences; and her PhD in Human Development and Family Studies – all from Iowa State University. In 2020, the Association of American Colleges & Universities named Dr. Corona a recipient of the K. Patricia Cross Futures Leaders Award, earning her national recognition for her academic and civic responsibility and contributions.
